Teaching Philosophy/Methodology

Every student brings to the session different needs and goals. I am there to listen and design a program that responds to those needs, however eclectic or straightforward. I have spent many years refining techniques for developing the voice as an instrument, for bringing out the creativity in every artist/writer, and for fine tuning performance areas. As an artist working in many areas of music — writing, performing, producing — I look forward to facilitating the growth of any student who wants to work.

Combining the technical with the ephemeral brings a joy to every learning and teaching experience. Lesson content may vary depending on the ebb and flow of the student's process. My voice lessons focus on healthy power and flexibility. Writing work is very much focused on the personal self-expression of the contemporary singer-songwriter. Performance issues are always about bringing out the inner artist, rather than staging moves and finessing one-liners. Art is motion, and the contemporary musician must embrace process. This philosophy is present in every lesson.
