JOHN LEHMANN-HAUPT

Specialties

Classical, song arranging for solo guitar, folk, blues, and fundamentals of rock.

Teaching Philosophy/Methodology

Although there’s a great deal of instructional material available for guitar, little of it actually discusses how the fingers work to draw sound from the instrument. I guide my students step-by-step to playing with ease, accuracy, and sonority, whether in music by Bach, Gershwin, James Taylor, or India Arie.

For those interested in the theory and structure of music, I discuss scales, chords, and harmonic relationships from the perspective of their derivation from the natural laws of sound itself.
